Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: September 2026

This policy sets out what may not be listed or done on Chroniq, how to report something, and what we do when we find it. It sits under our Terms of Service, which is the governing document — where this policy and the Terms differ, the Terms apply. Chroniq is an independent marketplace that connects buyers and sellers of luxury watches in the UAE. We are not a party to any sale.

1. Watches that may not be listed

A watch you do not lawfully own, or that you are not authorised by the owner to sell.

A watch that is stolen, lost, or otherwise unlawfully obtained, or that you have reason to believe is.

A counterfeit watch, a replica, or a watch described as genuine when it is not.

A watch assembled from parts of different watches, or containing non-original parts, unless that is clearly and prominently described in the listing.

A watch subject to finance, a lien, a pledge, or any other third-party claim, unless that is disclosed in the listing and you are permitted to sell.

2. Documents, serials and photographs

Do not list forged, altered, borrowed or otherwise inauthentic papers, certificates, warranty cards, service records or receipts.

Do not list a watch whose serial or reference number has been removed, defaced, re-stamped or otherwise altered, and do not present a serial or warranty card that belongs to a different watch.

Do not use photographs you did not take of a watch you do not have. Stock images, images taken from other listings and images of a different example of the same reference are all misrepresentation.

If a document is missing, say so. An honest gap is not a breach of this policy; a fabricated one is.

3. Conduct

Do not misrepresent the condition, history, service record, originality or provenance of a watch.

Do not impersonate another person, business or brand, and do not describe yourself as an authorised dealer for a brand unless you are one.

Do not attempt to move a buyer or seller off the platform in order to avoid our safety guidance, and do not solicit payment before a buyer has had the opportunity to inspect.

Do not harass other users, scrape the site, or misuse another user's personal data.

4. Reporting a listing

Every listing page has a Report control. It takes a reason — including 'I believe this watch is stolen' and 'I believe this watch is counterfeit' — and a free-text description. You do not need an account to be taken seriously, and you may report anonymously.

You can also email hello@chroniq.ae or message us on WhatsApp. If you are reporting a stolen watch, tell us whether you have filed a police report and give us the reference if you have one — it materially changes what we can do.

We read every report. We will not always tell you the outcome, because what we can share about another user is limited.

5. What we do about it

We may remove or hide a listing, suspend or close an account, ask a seller for evidence of ownership or authenticity, decline to reinstate a listing, and refuse future use of the platform.

We may act on a reasonable suspicion. Removing a listing is not a finding that a watch is counterfeit or stolen, and reinstating one is not a finding that it is genuine — we are not an authenticator and we do not adjudicate ownership.

Where a listing is removed for a reason under this policy, any listing fee paid is not refunded.

6. Law enforcement

Where we are required to by law, or where we reasonably suspect a criminal offence, we may share information about a listing, an account or a transaction with the police or other competent authorities in the UAE.

Our Privacy Policy sets out how long we keep your data and how to have it deleted. It carries an exception for records the law requires us to keep, and for identity documents where deletion is not legally permitted. Preserving records relating to a reported listing — including after an account is deleted — falls under that exception; it is not a separate power and it does not override the rest of the Privacy Policy.

We cooperate with law enforcement. We do not conduct investigations ourselves, we have no power to recover property, and nothing here makes us responsible for doing either.

7. What this policy is not

Chroniq does not authenticate watches, verify ownership, or check watches against stolen-property databases. We do not hold funds in escrow, and we do not guarantee any listing, seller or buyer.

This policy tells you what we prohibit and what we may do. It does not transfer responsibility for a watch's authenticity, ownership or description from the seller to us. Sellers warrant those things under our Terms of Service.

Buyers should inspect a watch and its papers, or use an independent authenticator, before paying.

8. Changes

We may update this policy. Continued use of Chroniq after a change means you accept the updated version.
