Verification Policy

Last updated: September 2026

This page explains exactly what a verified badge on Chroniq means, what we check to award one, and what it does not tell you. A verified badge means our team checked the seller's identity or trade licence. It is not an authentication of the watch. It sits under our Terms of Service, which is the governing document.

1. The short version

Dealers must have their trade licence reviewed and approved by our team before they can list. Private sellers can verify their identity with an Emirates ID and selfie to earn a badge. Verification checks the seller, never the watch — it is not an authentication, an ownership check, or a stolen-goods check.

If you take one thing from this page: a verified badge is about who you are dealing with, not about the watch they are selling.

2. What we check — dealers

A dealer submits a UAE trade licence. A member of our team looks at it and checks that the business named on it matches the business named on the account, that the licence is legible and unexpired, and that the details are internally consistent.

A dealer cannot list until that review is complete. A dealer who registers without a document is not verified, and paying for a subscription does not grant verification.

We check the document as presented to us. We are not a licensing authority, we do not audit a dealer's business, and we do not confirm their trading history, solvency or conduct.

3. What we check — private sellers

A private seller may verify their identity by submitting an Emirates ID and a selfie. A member of our team checks that the photograph on the document reasonably matches the selfie and that the document is legible and unexpired.

This is a manual review by our team. It is not a biometric identity check, it is not a background check, and it is not run against any government database.

Identity verification is optional. An unverified private seller can still list.

4. What verification does not tell you

It does not mean the watch is genuine. We do not inspect, handle, photograph or authenticate any watch, and no member of our team has examined the watch in a listing.

It does not mean the seller owns the watch, or has the right to sell it. Sellers warrant ownership and the right to sell under our Terms; we do not confirm it.

It does not mean the watch is not stolen. We do not check watches against stolen-property databases and have no access to one.

It does not mean the papers, warranty card or serial are genuine, or that they belong to the watch shown.

It does not mean the seller is honest, solvent, or will complete a sale. It is not a credit check, a reference, or a recommendation.

5. Your responsibility as a buyer

Inspect the watch and its papers in person, or use an independent authenticator, before you pay. This is the single thing that protects you, and a badge is not a substitute for it.

Chroniq is not a party to the sale. We do not hold funds, we are not an escrow provider, and we do not guarantee any listing, seller or buyer.

Our Safety guidance sets out how to meet, what to check on the papers and serial, and how to spot a counterfeit. It is worth reading before your first purchase.

6. Losing a badge

We may remove a badge at any time — for example if a document expires, if information turns out to be inaccurate, if an account changes hands, or if we receive credible reports about a seller's conduct.

Removing a badge is not a finding that a seller has done anything wrong, and keeping one is not a statement that they have not.

Verification is not permanent and is not transferable between accounts.

7. Documents you send us

Identity and licence documents are stored in a private, access-restricted location and are visible only to the team members who carry out the review.

They are used to make the verification decision and to meet our legal obligations. They are not shown to buyers, other sellers, or any other user.

We keep them only as long as we need them, and delete them in line with our Privacy Policy — which also explains how to ask for a copy or a deletion, and the narrow cases where the law requires us to keep a record for longer.

8. Reporting a verified seller

A badge does not put a seller beyond challenge. If a verified seller misrepresents a watch, use the Report control on the listing or email hello@chroniq.ae.

We may remove listings, remove the badge, suspend the account, and where we reasonably suspect an offence, share information with the authorities. Our Acceptable Use Policy sets out what we prohibit and what we do about it.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. Continued use of Chroniq after a change means you accept the updated version.
